1 Killed in Accident Involving an 18 Wheeler

One person has died and another is in critical condition after police say a car slammed into an 18 wheeler.

The accident happened at the intersection of Suntide and Up River Road. We are told that the two people were trapped in their car until emergency crews arrived.

It was just after 7 o’clock when emergency and rescue crews responded to the major accident.

Police say that the driver of the semi tractor trailer was heading northbound on Suntide Road, when a blue sedan traveling down Up River Road hit the big rig at the intersection.

According to police, the driver of the truck says he did not realize a car had crashed into him and ended up dragging the car about 30 yards.

Rescue crews were able to get the driver out of the car, who was then rushed to Christus Spohn Memorial.

The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Suntide Road remains closed as police are still on the scene investigating the crash.
