15-year-old dies in Highway 82 crash

A three vehicle accident Sunday evening resulted in the death of a 15 year-old female passenger in the 4200 block of East Highway 82 at around 10:15 pm.

Gainesville Police reported the driver of a 1992 Chevrolet truck, traveling east on Highway 82 attempted to change lanes while approaching a 2013 freight truck. The Chevrolet truck struck the rear left tandem wheels of the trailer pulled by the Freightliner truck.

The Chevrolet truck overturned, eventually resting on its top.

A 1999 Chevrolet Suburban, which was also eastbound on Highway 82, was unable to avoid the accident and sideswiped the overturned 1992 Chevrolet truck.

Fifteen year-old Kymberlee Lou Carter, a passenger in the 1992 Chevrolet truck, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Dorthy Lewis.

The driver of the Chevrolet truck, Patrick Anthony Bacon, 18, was taken by air ambulance to a hospital in Plano. He is currently listed in stable condition in a Plano hospital, Gainesville Police Department public information officer Belva McClinton said.

“The accident shut down Highway 82 for several hours,” Lewis said. “The accident was by FM 3092 and Highway 82.”
