51-year-old woman killed in 18-wheeler hit and run wreck on I-35

A 51-year-old woman was killed after she was hit by an 18-wheeler Sunday night while she was pulled off to the shoulder of I-35.

DPS Trooper D.L. Wilson says the wreck happened just after 9:45 p.m. after Maria Alonzo, of Wills Point, pulled her 1991 GMC pickup, which was pulling a homemade trailer, to the shoulder of I-35 near Carl’s Corner.

She got out of the truck and was walking to the front of the vehicle, when trooper Wilson reports an 18-wheeler drifted onto the improved shoulder and hit Alonzo, killing her instantly.

The 18-wheeler did not stop, and authorities are still looking for the driver, but have no description of the 18-wheeler.
