DPS identifies 2 killed in East Texas crash involving tow truck

LIVINGSTON, TEXAS (KETK) — Two people died Tuesday morning in a crash involving a tow truck near Livingston.

At 5:39 a.m. on Tuesday, Polk County DPS troopers were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash in the southbound lanes of US 59, about one mile north of Livingston.

Investigators believe the driver of a tow truck pulling a trailer transporting logs was broken down in the outside southbound lane of US 59. The driver reportedly stepped out of the vehicle in an attempt to warn oncoming traffic of the disabled vehicle.

A van– also heading south on US 59 —hit the back of the log trucks towed unit. Two passengers in the van were pronounced dead at the scene by Polk County Justice of the Peace Larry Whitworth.

The deceased driver has been identified as Susie Anna Granger, 45, of Lufkin. The passenger was identified as Shuna Latrice Carter, 41, of Nacogdoches.

Both southbound lanes are currently closed at this time and TxDOT officials are on the scene assisting with traffic control.

The crash remains under investigation.
