A fatal wreck blocked traffic on both sides of I-45 for a few hours Wednesday. The body of the deceased has been sent to Dallas to help with identification.
DPS Trooper D.L. Wilson says the wreck happened about 8:30 a.m. and involved an 18-wheeler that was northbound on the interstate, north of Buffalo, when the driver lost control. The 18-wheeler entered the median and rolled, with the trailer overturning and sliding into the path of a 2014 Dodge pickup in a southbound lane.
Trooper Wilson reports the pickup burst into flames after hitting the trailer. The driver was trapped in the cab of the pickup and was reportedly burned beyond recognition.
Investigators have not been able to confirm the identity of the pickup driver. His body has been sent to the Southwest Institute for Forensic Science for assistance with identification.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was not seriously injured.
The interstate was blocked in both directions following the wreck. Both side of I-45 were opened back up at 3:30 p.m.
