One dead in semi-truck fire. A crash involving 4 vehicles total claimed the life of 56-year-old Roland Duane Davis, Sr. of Terrell, Texas when his 18-wheelers crashed involving two other vehicles and another semi-truck Monday morning on Highway 281 just three miles south of Ben Bolt in Alice, TX.
The four vehicles were traveling southbound at approximately 5 a.m. when a semi-truck veered to the left for an unknown reason, unable to maintain his lane. The truck rode the guard rail for a short distance before hitting the right guard rail and landing on its side, according to the Department of Public Safety Trooper Charlie Ramirez.
According to a witness at the scene, there was debris on the outside lane, which may have caused the semi- truck to lose control.
The semi-truck’s trailer disconnected and continued to travel stopping in the middle of the southbound lane, Ramirez stated.
The second vehicle, a pickup truck, was following the 18-wheeler and hit it from behind. Davis’ semi-truck, traveling in the same direction, did not see the trailer and struck it and engulfed in flames resulting in his death.
A fourth vehicle, a Sports Utility Vehicle, didn’t have time to stop and rear-ended the burning semi-truck.
The crash is under investigation
